A Parade of Exaggerated Accolades

Dear sweet, kind, generous Cheryl,

What a parade of accolades! Exaggerated, I'm afraid. The card in which the splendid attributes, attainments and putative acts you so over-generously accord me will be cherished forever and a day, but there is one more that tops them all: The heaven-sent blessing of being your grand-father!

However, you somehow failed to add that I am

* trustworthy
* loyal
* helpful
* friendly
* courteous
* kind
* obedient
* cheerful
* thrifty
* brave
* clean
* and obey the Scout law.

Taps will soon be sounding for this 87-year old. May these words (heard every day of my life in Army basic training) reflect my unshakeable faith that God is near and us hears:

Day is done,
gone the sun,
from the lakes
from the hills
from the sky.
All is well,
safely, rest,
God is near.

Fading light,
dims the sight,
and a star gems the sky,
gleaming bright,
from afar.
Drawing, near,
falls the night.

Thanks and praise
for our days
Neath the sun,
neath the stars,
neath the sky
as we go.
This we know:
God is near.
