A Small Note of Explanation

In order to launch this project basing foreign language instruction on comic books, it was necessary to accept a pilot book as it came off the press for the general public. Publishing a separate book combining the best cartoons from the 15 issues of Condorito available at the time together with notes and exercises and the text of accompanying audio recordings would have been prohibitively expensive. In place of one book with consecutively numbered pages therefore, the full package consists of four items: Condorito No. 15 (100 pages), Notas y Ejercicios (100 pages), a dramatization of all cartoons that include dialog plus auditory comprehension and speaking drills and a "libreto" (30 pages) giving the text to the drills.

The Condorito cartoons touch on endless aspects of Chilean and Hispanic culture. No two cultures are alike and what passes as a sense of humor and proper objects of jests vary from one to another. Pepo enjoys ridiculing excesses of all kinds, including excessive drinking. Keep in mind that he sees the humorous elements involved and in no way is treating these things favorably or promoting them.

To promote the Condorito No. 15 package, two brochures with typical cartoons and learning aids, including cassette recordings, were prepared. The recordings are now available on CDs as mp3s.
